I have been in Antigua since November and when I got here there was a sense of optimism about the coming season. Sadly, Grenada Sailing Week, due to be at the end of January, was cancelled in December and gradually all the other major regattas followed suit. The season here is now virtually over, about 6 weeks ahead of time.
On the other hand, life here is OK, the curfew now starts at 20.00 and restaurants are now allowed to do table service, and the rumour is that curfew will be from 23.00 shortly. And we have been quite busy at On Deck with a healthy mixture of shorebased and practical courses.
In the UK, things are opening up and we hope for a full season of sailing and racing.
Regulations are due to be relaxed on 17 May and our Fastnet Campaign will kick off with a Training Weekend on 22-23 May, followed by the Myth of Malham qualifying race a week later. There is still the rule of 6 in place until June, so for these 2 weekends we will be max 6 on board. After 21 June it is anticipated that all restrictions will be removed, so we can race with our usual crew of 9. Therefore we will be 9 for the remainder of the campaign, with a Training Weekend on 26-27 June; the Cowes to St. Malo Race on 9 July and the Channel Race on 24 July; and the Rolex Fastnet Race starts on Sunday 8 August. We have places available for the 'Short Fastnet Campaign', details on the Programme Page.
Other Racing:
Round the Island - 2 days training + the race itself on Sat 3 July;
Taittinger Regatta - 16-18 July
Cowes Week - 31 July to 6 Aug
